Catskills, New York
I fell in love a few years ago with the luminescent mountain vistas, waterfalls, abandoned sites, streams and wild forests of the Catskills in New York. This region has inspired artists since the romanticism of the 1800's Hudson River art movement. I have hiked all over the area searching for shooting locations while attempting to avoid the bears, and ran several photo workshops benefiting from my finds. I will keep returning to shoot there as the light is so magical. The lofty clouds, foggy days and light filtering through the deep forests act as a natural soft box. I have made friends with the current home owners of some of the original 1910 art colonies in Woodstock and tend to use those as a base...as well as a reason to indulge in 1960's nostalgia.
